It’s Friday, so you know what that means: another set of newly released music is out for fans. Check out some of this week’s releases below.
Eminem, Curtain Call 2 — Slim Shady is back with another greatest hits compilation following 2005’s Curtain Call. This project features some of his best singles from 2009’s Relapse onward, as well as an unreleased track featuring 50 Cent, “Is This Love.”

Bobby Shmurda, Bodboy — The Brooklyn rapper endured a lengthy prison sentence and some issues with his former record label, but now he’s a free man. Though he’s released a few singles, this is his first project since his debut EP, Shmurda She Wrote. “1st project since 2014 9songs long I’m excited,” he wrote on Instagram.
DJ Khaled, Drake, Lil Baby, “Staying Alive” — The men take on the roles of health care workers at Khaled Khaled Hospital in the new visual. The song interpolates the Bee Gees song of a similar name, “Stayin’ Alive.”
The Weeknd, Summer Walker, “Best Friends” remix — Walker adds her flair to “Best Friends,” released on 2022’s Dawn FM. “she fucking CRUSHED it,” The Weeknd said of Walker’s contributions.
John Legend, Saweetie, “All She Wanna Do” — The unlikely pair teamed up for a song “about a woman that you see out in a club who is just living her best life, embracing the party life and you want to be a part of it! You want to touch this energy that she has,” John said.

Megan Thee Stallion vents frustration after alleged music leak
(NOTE LANGUAGE) Megan Thee Stallion‘s music supposedly leaked, and she believes her record label is to blame. In a social media rant Thursday, she vented and publicly questioned the early releases.
Meg wrote, “I can’t catch a break my label hate me and my s*** always leak,” she wrote in a now-deleted post on her Instagram Story. “At this point invite the hotties to the studio and shoots.”
While it’s unclear which one of her tracks was leaked, her anger was quite apparent, as she continued her rant on Twitter.
“Why continue to choose peace when everyone else choosing violence???” she wrote. “Lol I got money I PAY FOR ALOT OF MY OWNNNN S******* I’ll start from scratch bc I’m a mf hustler BABYYYY.”
Megan has a management deal with Roc Nation, but she’s signed to 300 Entertainment and 1501 Certified Entertainment. She’s filed several lawsuits against 1501 over owed money and restrictions on her album releases.
Though upset about the leak, Meg says she is talented enough to start from scratch and make more music if need be.
“More s*** my leak idk hotties lol idk but I really RAP so I can make MORE music any time…,” she concluded, noting she was “done with Twitter for the day.”
Megan is currently gearing up for the release of her upcoming album, which she confirmed was completed last week. “So happy abt my album,” she wrote on her Story. “it’s finished. it’s for the hotties. it’s honest. it’s me. it’s real.”
The rapper also deleted her Instagram posts, recently adding a photo that defines “traumazine,” a word the post says is synonymous with “self-realization.”

'Aftershock' director says Hulu documentary “comes at a crucial time”
Aftershock, a documentary out now on Hulu, follows the widowed husbands of Shamony Gibson and Amber Rose Isaac as they seek to raise awareness of the high maternal mortality rate of Black women and how the crisis can be solved.
The documentary’s director, Paula Eiselt, tells ABC Audio the film “comes at a really crucial time in this country,” noting, “with the overturning of Roe v. Wade our reproductive healthcare is under complete attack.”
As for what she believes the doc adds to the conversation going on right now surrounding reproductive rights, Eiselt says, “It’s really important that we speak about full spectrum reproductive rights in one conversation. That means talking about abortion care and maternal healthcare ’cause they’re one in the same. Abortion is healthcare and maternal healthcare is healthcare. We have to talk about this together.”
Adds Eiselt, “In the same way that a woman has the human right to choose whether or not to carry a pregnancy, if she does choose to have a baby, then she has the right to a safe and dignified birth.
Her hope is that the film acts as “a conversation starter within our communities and also with the power structure of this country.”
“I hope that after watching Aftershock, more women and families understand that there are choices around birthing and that women feel empowered to make those choices, demand autonomy, and human centered care in their birth,” she adds.

Blxst earns first Platinum hit with “Chosen” featuring Tyga & Ty Dolla $ign
Hard work and consistency pay off … just ask Blxst. The singer, who launched his music career in 2014, has earned his first Platinum certification.
“Chosen” featuring Ty Dolla $ign and Tyga has sold 1 million units, according to the RIAA. The 2020 single officially obtained Platinum status on July 22, but the news has been widely reported all week.
“Blxst is a game changer and we are thrilled to see the continued success of ‘Chosen’ and his monumental growth as an artist,” said Greg Hammer, managing director of Red Bull Records, who launched the song alongside Blxst’s Evgle label. “The entire Red Bull Records crew and I look forward to what’s to come with this incredible talent and our partnership with the Evgle team. Congratulations to Blxst for this well-deserved accomplishment!”
The success of “Chosen” comes as no surprise to Blxst fans. The song debuted at #51 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent eight weeks as the #1 single on the Billboard Rap Airplay chart.
The single was featured on the deluxe version of the singer’s debut EP No Love Lost, which also includes songs “Overrated” and “Got It All” featuring Dom Kennedy.
Blxst has since released an EP — Sixtape 2 with Bino Rideaux — and an LP — Before You Go. His tour supporting the latter project runs through Nov. 16, making stops throughout the U.S. and Europe.

John Legend announces new album 'Legend,' drops Saweetie-assisted single “All She Wanna Do”
It’s been a little over two years since John Legend dropped his last LP, but he’s finally ready to release another body of work. The singer’s eighth studio album is slated to come out in roughly a month — September 9.
Legend will come in the form of a double album complete with collaborations from Rick Ross, Ty Dolla $ign, Jhené Aiko, Jazmine Sullivan, Ledisi and more. It includes previous singles “Honey” featuring Muni Long and the JID-assisted “Dope,” as well as “All She Wanna Do” featuring Saweetie, which just dropped early Friday.
As the title implies, Legend derives from John’s stage name, as well as the word meaning “a famous or important person who is known for doing something extremely well,” as defined by Brittanica.
After years of putting in the work in the music industry, John is finally embracing the name for this album, as he’s confident he’s earned that right.
“Until this point, I’ve never used an aspect of my name as the title of an album,” he said in a press release. “I had to earn that, to live up to it by delivering in the performance and the music. And this is me saying, I’m proud of who I am, I’m confident in the work I’ve done, and I’m just going to declare it.”
In addition to the album announcement and release of his new single with Saweetie, John has a lot to look forward to. He kicks off the second leg of his Love in Las Vegas residency Friday, August 5 and is expecting another child with wife Chrissy Teigen.
