Slim Jxmmi arrested in connection to Georgia drug case; attorney says it's a “miscommunication”

Slim Jxmmi, one half of the duo Rae Sremmurd, was arrested Sunday in connection to a drug case. The rapper was taken into custody by Customs and Border Patrol agents upon his arrival at the Los Angeles International Airport from Canada.

TMZ reports Slim Jxmmi was brought in on an outstanding warrant stemming from a prior marijuana-related arrest. He remains in an LA jail, where he’s currently being held without bail. He will reportedly be extradited to Georgia, where he was initially charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell.

Jxmmi’s lawyer, Steve Sadow, has since released a statement, claiming the arrest was the result of a “miscommunication.” He claimed the rapper filed a plea in the offense and was placed on probation. As for the warrant, Sadow said it was wrongfully issued in June 2022, when the mother of Jxmmi’s child “filed a untruthful complaint with the Cobb County Police Department.” It was later dismissed, but Cobb County authorities were not made aware, thus leading to Jxmmi’s Sunday arrest.

Sadow expects the rapper will be released as soon as the warrant is withdrawn.

Serena Williams suggests plans to retire from tennis after US Open

Robert Prange/Getty Images

(NEW YORK) — Serena Williams has announced her professional tennis career is drawing to a close, and that the US Open could be her final tournament.

In an essay published Tuesday on Vogue.com, the tennis legend opened up about her hopes to grow her family with husband Alexis Ohanian, and how she has wrestled with the choice between career and family.

“If I were a guy, I wouldn’t be writing this because I’d be out there playing and winning while my wife was doing the physical labor of expanding our family,” she said in the essay. “Maybe I’d be more of a Tom Brady if I had that opportunity. Don’t get me wrong: I love being a woman, and I loved every second of being pregnant with Olympia. …But I’m turning 41 this month, and something’s got to give.”

Williams achieved her last Grand Slam title at the 2017 Australian Open, while pregnant with her daughter Olympia, who turns 5 next month, according to ESPN.

Securing her first match win in 14 months on Monday, Williams is currently competing at the Canadian Open. She has suggested she will taper off her tournament play with the Western & Southern Open next week and the US Open later this month.

The 23-Grand Slam title winner says she doesn’t like the word “retirement” and prefers to think of this as an “evolution” away from tennis toward other projects that are important to her.

Motown songwriting legend Lamont Dozier dead at 81

Michael Stewart/WireImage

Lamont Dozier, one-third of the legendary Motown songwriting team of Holland-Dozier-Holland, has died, his son announced on Instagram Tuesday. He was 81.

Lamont Dozier Jr. posted a photo of himself with his famous father and wrote, “Rest in Heavenly Peace, Dad!” Details of his death are not known at this time.

Dozier and brothers Eddie Holland and Brian Holland joined Motown in 1962 and wrote more than 200 songs for the label’s acts, helping to create the “Motown Sound.” Dozier and Brian worked as musical arrangers and producers, while Eddie focused on lyrics and vocal production.

Together, the trio wrote 10 #1 hits, including The Supremes‘ “Where Did Our Love Go,” “You Can’t Hurry Love,” “Baby Love” and “Stop! In the Name of Love” and The Four Tops‘ “I Can’t Help Myself” and “Reach Out I’ll Be There.”  They also penned classic hits for Martha & The Vandellas, The Miracles, Marvin Gaye and The Isley Brothers.

In 1988 and 1990, Holland-Dozier-Holland were inducted, respectively, into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The trio left Motown in 1968 to form the labels Invictus and Hot Wax. In 1973, Dozier left the trio, recording albums as a solo artist and penning songs for others. Some of his later co-writes included the Phil Collins‘ smash “Two Hearts,” Alison Moyet‘s “Invisible,” Debbie Gibson‘s “Anything Is Possible,” and “Without You” by Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle.

In a 2015 interview with The Guardian, Dozier explained why the songs the trio wrote were mostly empathetic toward women. “Women bought the records, to put it bluntly,” Dozier said. “They wanted music that talked about their feelings, but also … women raised me … I trusted women, and I still do.”

Fellow hitmaking songwriter of the ’60s Carole King tweeted, “Gerry [Goffin] & I respected Holland Dozier Holland over at Motown. Striving to keep up with them made us better songwriters. Rest In Peace and power Lamont Dozier.”

Serena Williams announces she's “evolving away from tennis” in new 'Vogue' essay

Luis Alberto Rodriguez

Serena Williams is gearing up to say goodbye to professional tennis after serving up inspiration to the sports world for more than two decades.

The 23-time Grand Slam winner penned a new personal essay for Vogue magazine that was revealed exclusively on Good Morning America Tuesday. Titled “The Hardest Thing,” she says farewell to the game in her own way and in her own words.

Williams said she hates the word retirement, writing: “The best word to describe what I’m up to is evolution. I’m here to tell you that I’m evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me.”

The former #1-ranked women’s tennis player and four-time Olympic gold medalist said there is “no happiness in this topic for me,” but that she wants to focus on family and her business investment empire. Williams explained that she doesn’t feel she can do that while also playing tennis.

“But these days, if I have to choose between building my tennis résumé and building my family, I choose the latter … In the last year, [husband] Alexis [Ohanian] and I have been trying to have another child, and we recently got some information from my doctor that put my mind at ease and made me feel that whenever we’re ready, we can add to our family. I definitely don’t want to be pregnant again as an athlete. I need to be two feet into tennis or two feet out,” Williams wrote.

Although this is the closest Serena’s come to a possible retirement, it’s not the end for the champ just yet. Williams recently scored her first tournament singles win in over a year at the WTA National Bank Open in Toronto and plans to play in the U.S. Open in New York City.

Amy Sussman/Getty Images

Drake‘s father, Dennis Graham paid tribute to his son five years ago by getting a tattoo of the rapper’s face on his forearm, and on Monday, Drake couldn’t help but poke a little fun at it.

“@therealdennisg I was just sitting here thinking why you do me like this we family,” Drake captioned an Instagram photo of the tattoo, followed by several laughing emojis.

Complex reports that Dennis tapped tattoo artist Money Mike for the ink, which features a full headshot of the “Sticky” rapper on his right arm.

“Had the honor and privilege of tattooing @champagnepapi fathers portrait on the man himself @therealdennisg,” Mike wrote on his website at the time. “Thank you again Dennis for the hospitality and for letting me do this for ya. CHUUUCH.”

TMZ also reported at the time that Dennis “wanted to get the ink to match Drake getting Dennis’ mugshot tattooed on his arm in 2014.”
