Solange Knowles to compose score for NYC Ballet
Solange Knowles‘ songwriting skills have landed her a gig with the New York City Ballet. The singer was tapped to write a new score for the company’s 10th annual Fall Fashion Gala.
According to a press release, members of the New York City Ballet Orchestra will join with Solange’s frequent collaborators to perform the score, while dancers take the stage in a piece choreographed by Gianna Reisen.
Solange’s proven her songwriting abilities with credits on Destiny’s Child “Bad Habit,” sister Beyoncé‘s “Upgrade U,” “Get Me Bodied,” and “Scared of Lonely,” and her very own “Cranes in the Sky” and “Don’t Touch My Hair.”
The score for New York City Ballet, however, marks her first composition for a ballet company.
The Fall Fashion Gala is slated to premiere on September 28 at Lincoln Center. Subsequent shows will be performed in October and May.

“Her” is the fourth single off Traumazine following hits “Plan B,” “Pressurelicious” featuring Future and “Sweetest Pie” with Dua Lipa. Meg debuted the track Friday during her appearance on GMA‘s Summer Concert series.
As for the album itself, it’s projected to earn between 40,000 to 50,000 units in its first week, with a possible #2 debut on the Billboard 200.

XXXTentacion murder suspect enters guilty plea
A suspect in XXXTentacion‘s tragic death has accepted a plea deal that could reduce his life sentence. According to Local 10 News, Robert Allen — who was previously charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a deadly firearm — pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of second-degree murder and robbery with a firearm.
XXXTentacion, born Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy, was fatally shot on June 18, 2018, shortly after leaving the RIVA Motorsports in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Prosecutors say he was killed by attackers who sought the $50,000 he’d just withdrawn from the bank.
Allen is one of four suspects arrested in connection to the rapper’s murder. Per the terms of his plea deal, he will testify against the other three individuals — Michael Boatwright, Dedrick Williams and Trayvon Newsome.
“Mr. Allen’s role in this, it was much less than the other three,” his attorney, Jim Lewis, said. “More of an accessory after the fact than really part of the planning. Certainly, he never got out of the car, never had a gun, never shot anybody.”
Allen’s sentencing is scheduled to take place February 23.

Snoop Loopz: Snoop Dogg launches gluten-free multigrain cereal
If you’re a Snoop Dogg fan who loves breakfast cereal, his newest product may be for you. The rapper is coming out with what looks like his take on Kellogg’s Froot Loops, and he’s decided to call it Snoop Loopz.
Set to be released under Snoop’s Broadus Food business, the rapper’s brand is a gluten-free multigrain cereal that has “more corn, more flavor and more marshmallows” than Froot Loops. Both Snoop and Master P, who previously dropped his own cereal, tease it’s “the best tasting cereal in the game.”
Snoop Loopz is the latest venture in the Broadus Food business, which already sells other breakfast foods like Mama Snoop’s cereal, oatmeal, grits, pancake mix and syrup.

“There's no fiction” in Hulu's 'Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers,' Kareem Abdul-Jabbar says
Want to know the real story of how the Lakers became the Showtime Lakers? Then the new docuseries Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers is for you.
The Hulu series, debuting Monday, details how Dr. Jerry Buss bought the team in the late ’70s and created one of the greatest dynasties in sports. NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is featured in the show, and he tells ABC Audio the secret to their success was that they “kept trying to build a family situation.”
“We never got to a point where it was develop an individual,” he explains. “It was always about all of us. And we tried to help each other.”
Abdul-Jabbar adds that this docuseries is kind of an antidote to the recent HBO series Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, which has been criticized by many former players for alleged inaccuracies.
“It’s a chance for us to tell our stories…There’s no fiction in this,” Abdul-Jabbar says.
Legacy also gets into the power struggle among Buss’s children that came after he died, which his daughter, and current Lakers president, Jeanie Buss, says was “very healing” for their family.
Additionally, the series shows how the Lakers family, fans included, bonded after several tragedies like “Magic [Johnson] having to retire because of HIV” and “the tragedy of losing Kobe and Gigi [Bryant].”
“What’s happened is Laker Nation comes together and leans on each other,” Buss shares. “And we know there’s going to be another day…where we play basketball again. And that’s how we start to heal because we grieve together.”
Overall, though, director Antoine Fuqua hopes people are left inspired.
“It’s the American dream. I think what Dr. Buss did is incredible…coming from very humble means and making his way out here…and what he brought to not only Los Angeles, to sports entertainment. Just it’s inspiring.”

Emotional day for Uvalde families at Houston Astros game
(HOUSTON) — Faith Mata threw Sunday’s first pitch at the Houston Astros game in honor of her sister, Tess, 10, who was killed in the devastating shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde in May. The fourth grader had been saving money to take her family to a game at Minute Maid Park to see her favorite player, Jose Altuve.
With tears in her eyes, the girls’ mom said the family never had the opportunity to bring Tess to a game, but she would be “so excited… She’d be jumping up and down right now,” she told ABC News.
“We wanted them to be treated like royalty,” Astros Foundation Executive Director Paula Harris told ABC News when describing what the team has dubbed “Uvalde Strong Day.” The foundation gave away thousands of tickets and sent buses to pick up 500 Uvalde residents, who either were directly affected by or responded to the tragedy, to shuttle them to Houston. When entering the city limits, the Houston Police Department escorted the buses directly to Minute Maid Park.
Jose Altuve posed for selfies with young fans, and the crowd of community members got to ask players questions and interact with them on the field. Dusty Baker, the team’s manager, said to the crowd of Uvaldeans that his hope for the day was that it would help with the healing process.
Attending with his family, Javier Cazares, the father of shooting victim Jackie Cazares, said he felt Houston’s support, was happy to be at Minute Maid and hoped for a good game. His shirt, bearing Jackie’s image with added wings and the words “Forever in our hearts,” was a stark reminder of the painful event that brought this still-healing community to Houston.
Harris told ABC News the event is the Astros saying to the Uvalde community, “You’re family. You’re neighbors. We want to do whatever we can to help you get through this process. And if it’s just a smile on a Sunday for our game, that’s what we want to do.”
When asked how Tess would be reacting to the day, her dad said, “She’s looking down on us right now, and I’m pretty sure she has a big ol’ smile.”
