Philadelphia Eagles' Carson Wentz likely out remainder of season with stress fracture in back

Photo by Allen Kee / ESPN Images(PHILADELPHIA) — Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is likely done for the remainder of the season, head coach Doug Pederson admitted Friday, after he was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his back.

Wentz saw his rookie season end early last year, following a torn ACL. Backup quarterback Nick Foles took over for Wentz last year and led Philadelphia to a Super Bowl win. Foles is expected to take the reins in Wentz’ absence.

Pederson says Wentz will travel with the team this weekend andis listed as doubtful to play.

The fracture in Wentz’ back was discovered on a scan earlier this week, after the second-year quarterback was limited at practice due to back soreness. Pederson insists there will be no long-term issues for Wentz following his recovery, which should take about three weeks and will not require surgery.

Suns owner Robert Sarver affirms commitment to keep team in Phoenix

stevanovicigor/iStock(PHOENIX) — One day after reports that he had threatened to move the the team elsewhere, Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver said Thursday he is fully committed to keeping the team in place.

“I am 100 percent all-in in keeping this team right here where we stand,” Sarver said in a video message posted to Twitter. “And I want to make sure that message comes across crystal clear to every one of you.”

Earlier in the week, the Phoenix City Council delayed a vote on more than $200 million in renovations to the team’s stadium. The Arizona Republic reported Wednesday that Sarver had recently contacted a member of the council threatening to move the team to Seattle or Las Vegas if the renovation deal wasn’t approved.

On Friday, Suns president Jason Rowley released a statement that indicated the team has had no discussions with any other city about potential relocation.

Sarver has said he is looking to build a “first-class” practice facility in addition to improving the arena. The vote on those renovations will now be held on January 23.

Blurred Lines: Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke ordered to pay $5 million to Marvin Gaye estate

ABC/Fred LeeThe long drawn-out legal battle over Robin Thicke‘s 2013 hit “Blurred Lines, involving Pharrell Williams and Marvin Gaye‘s estate, has finally come to a pricey end.

The artists behind the buzzy single have been ordered by Judge John A. Kronstadt to pay the family of the “What’s Going On” singer $5 million, Billboard reports. The hefty sum includes Thicke, Williams and Williams’ publishing company owing a combined $2.9 million, plus an additional $1.7 million required to be paid by Thicke and some $357,631 from Williams and his More Water From Nazareth company.

As previously reported, the Gaye family sued Thicke and Williams in 2013 for copyright infringement of the soul singer’s 1977 hit song “Got to Give It Up.” Initially, a judge ruled that both Thicke and Williams owed Gaye’s estate $7 million, but following an appeal the judgement was decreased.

Moving forward, the Gaye family is entitled to a running royalty of half the “Blurred Lines” songwriter and publishing revenue.

Fired Maryland football coach D.J. Durkin offering input to Alabama coaching staff

33ft/iStock(TUSCALOOSA, Ala.) — Former University of Maryland football coach D.J. Durkin has been working with the University of Alabama coaching staff this week, ahead of the Crimson Tide’s College Football Playoff game.

Durkin was fired by the University of Maryland in October after two investigations into the program — focusing on the death of offensive lineman Jordan McNair and the culture Durkin had created.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban has invited a number of former head coaches to spend time with the Alabama staff in recent years, including Hugh Freeze, Chip Kelly, Lane Kiffin, Butch Jones, Steve Sarkisian and Rich Rodriguez. Freeze, Kelly and Kiffin all eventually received head coaching jobs elsewhere after working with Alabama, while Jones, Kiffin and Sarkisian each ended up on the Alabama coaching staff.

Sources told ESPN that Durkin has not been hired in any capacity, and was solely offering input ahead of Alabama’s game against Oklahoma on December 29. ESPN also says Durkin has met with multiple NFL teams since his firing to “watch tape and offer input.”

Kanye West alleges Drake has now threatened his family

ABC/Randy HolmesThe festering feud between Kanye West and Drake is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Late Thursday night, Ye’ unloaded a barrage of eyebrow-raising tweets aimed at the Toronto emcee. “Drake called trying to threatened [sic] me,” he began his frantic tirade. “So Drake if anything happens to me or anyone from my family, you are the first suspect. So cut the tough talk.”

He continued to chide his fellow rap peer by saying, “There would never be a Drake without a Kanye West. So never come out your mouth with a threat.”

Following the tweet storm from Mr. West, which included even more claims of foul play, Kim Kardashian sent out a few tweets of her own directed at the OVO front man.

“Never threaten my husband or our family,” she wrote. “He paved the way for there to be a Drake.”

The mother of three added, “My husband is the most brilliant person, the most genius person that I know. He has broken so many boundaries, everything from music, stage design, fashion and culture and will continue to change the world.”

As previously reported, Kanye took to Twitter on Thursday afternoon to dig into Drizzy about their unresolved issues. The catalyst, allegedly, was that the Scorpion lyricist was looking to clear a sampleof Kanye’s 2008 effort “Say You Will.”

Ray J details joint album with sister Brandy: “We’re undefeated together”

Michael Bezjian/Getty Images for Primary WaveJust days after teasing a new album, with sister Brandy, Ray J joined ABC Radio to dish on the collaborative effort.

“I’ve been waiting on this project for a long time,” the Love & Hip-Hop:Hollywood star said enthusiastically of the project.

Late last week, Ray J revealed the album’s arrival by sharing a photo of himself cozied up alongside his big sister on Instagram. Along with an endearing caption which read “Best Friends,” the Raycon CEO also hinted at the project’s title through a series of hashtags, one of them being #RnB, a clear play on of the duo’s first initials.

Bringing the joint album to fruition, however, has proved to be quite a process. According to the “One Wish” singer, the concept behind the collaboration was sparked after he assisted Brandy in preparing new music of her own.

“I told her, ‘we’re undefeated together,’” Ray J recalled. “’We can beat it together.’ So, like I think we’ll win if we always collaborate and always be positive together.”

“People like that,” he added. “They gravitate to that. So, I think it’s gonna be a good run.”

While the Ray J didn’t share any details regarding the album’s intended release date, fans can expect RnB to be available at some point next year.

Janelle Monae unveils new video for “Crazy Classic Life”

JUCOJanelle Monáe has unveiled the striking standalone music video for her equally eclectic track, “Crazy Classic Life” off her Grammy-nominated album Dirty Computer.

Taking cues from her film project Dirty Computer – An Emotion Picture, the video finds Janelle channeling her inner punk aesthetic.

The Alan Ferguson directed-clip begins with the singer driving in a hover car accompanied by a friend. While in the midst of their journey, however, they’re stopped by a security bot that examines them to make sure they’re “clean,” before flying off. Once the coast is clear, Janelle steps out of the car, opens the trunk and reveals a handful of her fellow “dirty computers” who are essentially a part of her crew.

Soon afterward, Janelle heads to a clearing with her girls in tow as they throw one of the most colorful queer-themed parties of a lifetime.

The singer shared a few words on the visual, via a press release.  “I had a world of fun with the Django Janes and Zen (played by the incomparable Tessa Thompson) and Che off in the future, dancing while changing the world,” she said.

“This one is for all the dirty computers out there! Never forget, ‘We are not America’s nightmare, we are the American dream.'”

50 Cent, Ray J, Lil Duval and more react to Cardi B and Offset's break-up

ABC/Randy HolmesNearly a week after Cardi B called it quits with husband Offset, the Internet is still collectively mourning the split between the “Motorsport” couple.

Amid the initial fan reactions, however, a slew of celebrities have chimed in on Cardi’s marital woes to offer a bit of unsolicited advice of their own.

On Monday night, veteran rapper 50 Cent shared his thoughts on the couple’s impending divorce via Instagram. “No you not getting a Divorce, Offset,” he captioned a video post of the former duo. “I don’t give a f**k what she say just kiss her a** man f**k it.”

Comedian Lil Duval echoed more or less of the same sentiment via social media. “Life too short to be leaving n****s just [sic] cuz they cheated,” he wrote on Twitter. The “Smile” artist then shared the post on Instagram, captioning the photo with a series of hashtags which included #TakeOffsetBack.

Following suit, Ray J shared his hopes for the couple to reconcile. I love both of them man,” the singer told TMZ outside of a West Hollywood eatery. “My prayers are going out because I think they’re good for each other.”

“Sometimes you make some mistakes and you want to, you know, get it right,” he added.

As previously reported, the “Money” rapper announced the break-up in a video posted on her Instagram page on Dec. 5. The couple, who share a four-month-old daughter, Kulture, secretly tied the knot in September of 2017, but didn’t confirm the wedding until this past June.

Trey Songz teases forthcoming collaboration with Chris Brown

ABC/Randy HolmesAs much of the Internet continues to debate who to crown the reigning “King of R&B,” Trey Songz and Chris Brown have seemingly weighed in on the matter by teasing their forthcoming joint effort.

On Tuesday night, Trey shared a series of photos alongside the Heartbreak on a Full Moon singer in what appears to be behind-the-scene shots from a music video. “Since 04 with my n***a. I’m just happy to be here,” Trey endearingly captioned one of the Instagram posts.

The other image frames both artists standing side to side as they flaunt their signature grins. The caption includes a response to a running gag between them: “Maurice & I.”

While the Virginia songbirds have collaborated on a few loosies here and there, including “Songs On 12 Play” off of CB’s album, the R&B heavyweights’ joining forces could range anywhere from a joint album to merely a feature on Trey’s next project.

Chris, however, has remained relatively mum on the impending collaboration.
