Weather cancels First Responder Bowl between Boise State and Boston College

artisteer/iStock(DALLAS) — Rain and lightning stopped the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl in the first quarter, eventually cancelling the game between #23 Boise State and Boston College.

The delay began with 5:08 remaining in the first quarter and Boston College up 7-0. About an hour and a half later, the game was called. It isn’t expected to be resumed, and the statistics from the few minutes of play will not count.

The NCAA Sports Medicine Handbook requires that thirty minutes must pass between a lightning strike within eight miles of the stadium before the game can be resumed. Every new lightning strike resets that clock.

Boston College has promised that anyone who purchased a ticket for the game through the school will receive a full refund.

Boise (10-3) was aiming for its second consecutive 11-win season. Boston College had been hoping to win its eighth game in one season for the first time in head coach Steve Addazio’s six-year tenure.

ABC/Paula Lobo

Hip-hop titans Notorious B.I.G. and the Wu-Tang Clan are being recognized in a major way by their hometown of New York City.

The beloved local heroes will be honored by having streets named them, Gothamist reports. In its last meeting of the year, the New York City Council voted 48-0 to honor the legendary artists with street signs in their native boroughs.

Biggie will be saluted with Christopher Wallace Way in Brooklyn, and Wu-Tang will receive its honor in Staten Island with the Wu-Tang Clan District.

“I’m happy that NYC officials are finally giving the city’s indigenous hip hop music the respect and recognition that it deserves,” local culture advocate LeRoy McCarthy told Gothamist.

“It took a long time and lots of hard work to advance the Christopher Wallace Way & Wu-Tang Clan District street co-naming, but y’know what — Hip Hop Don’t Stop.”

According to Gothamist, NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio still needs to sign off on the bills before the street signs can be made official.

A petition to ban Jacquees from doing cover songs has garnered over 25K signatures

Prince Williams/Wireimage

As much of the Internet continues to react to Jacquees’ “king of R&B” debate, there is now a petition to prevent the singer from adding his own twist to hit songs.

Tuesday night, concerned music lover Ricky Fields created the Change.org request and shared it via social media.

“As a Black community, we have to figure out how we getting rid of Jacquees,” the online petition reads. At press time, the document had surpassed its goal of 25K signatures, with many supporters citing the Georgia crooner’s covers and remixes of well-known tracks as one of their issues with him.

Within the last several months, Jacquees’ rendition of popular tunes, including Donnie Hathaway’s “This Christmas,” Beyonce’s “Bow Down” and Soul For Real’s “Candy Rain,” have surfaced online.

Most notably, Jacquees’s revisited Ella Mai‘s “Trip,” which was reportedly removed from SoundCloud by Mai’s team because it was unauthorized.

Anderson .Paak says a highlight of 2018 was his return to Oxnard: “It was dope to really make the city proud”

Lester Cohen/Getty Images for Wonder Productions, Inc.

Anderson .Paak‘s had a phenomenal year: He released his album, Oxnard, performed on Saturday Night Live, announced a world tour, co-wrote songs for Christina Aguilera‘s album, and received a Grammy nomination for his single, “Bubblin’.” But if you ask the soul singer, one of the highlights of 2018 was returning to his hometown of Oxnard, CA to host a celebratory event for his beloved community.

On Nov. 17, Andy’s Oxnard Carnival invaded a local park and treated attendees to free food, games, rides and more.

“I went back to the city, we threw a free carnival for the whole city,” Paak told reporters earlier this year.  “Y’know, the 805 was gettin’ touched by fires and stuff so we threw a free carnival and a listening party. I got the key to the city, I got my own Anderson.Paak day, it’s wild!” he recalled.

“I brought Dr. Dre with me, we had free hot dogs and nachos…” he laughed. “It was dope to come back and really make the city proud.”

But now that Paak is the biggest thing ever to come out of Oxnard, he says people don’t treat him the same when he goes back home.

“I have, like, a lot more cousins and family members now that came out of nowhere,” he laughed. “A lot of high school people that, y’know, I was into, and now they’re like, ‘Yo, what’s up?  You’re cute! I love you!'”

But, he says, “It’s all good.”

Anderson .Paak’s Andy’s Beach Club tour kicks off February 11, 2019, just a day after he finds out if he’s won the Grammy for “Bubblin’.”

LeBron James apologizes for quoting 21 Savage lyric about “getting Jewish money”

Slaughter Gang/Epic RecordsLeBron James is apologizing following the backlash over his quoting a 21 Savage lyric that mentions “getting Jewish money.”

The Los Angeles Laker star posted the line from the Atlanta rapper’s track “ASMR” — “We been getting that Jewish money. Everything is Kosher” — Saturday in an Instagram story, according to Sports Illustrated. The song appears on Savage’s new album, I Am Greater Than I Was, which dropped Friday.

Darren Rovell from The Action Network sports website was among the people criticizing the four-time NBA MVP for quoting those lyrics.

“Surprised LeBron, who makes very few mistakes, put this out,” he tweeted. “Does quoting lyrics from a song absolve the person quoting from the responsibility behind the words? I’d argue no, especially with a following of 45 million.”

“Apologies, for sure, if I offended anyone,” James said to ESPN. “I always [post lyrics]. That’s what I do. I ride in my car, I listen to great music and that was the byproduct of it.”

“I actually thought it was a compliment and obviously it wasn’t through the lens of a lot of people,” he continued. “My apologies. It definitely was not the intent, obviously, to hurt anybody.”

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN tweeted that the NBA has accepted LeBron’s apology.

“The league office has been in contact with LeBron James about his social media post referencing ‘Jewish money’, accepted his explanation that he made a mistake and the NBA will take no action,” he wrote.

Fans react to Nicki Minaj's boyfriend tattooing her name on his neck

Corbis/Corbis via Getty ImagesNicki Minaj‘s new beau Kenneth Petty isn’t coy when it comes to flaunting his love for the rapper…even if it means sporting a tattoo of her name on his neck.

Friday night, the Head Barb shared a video of Petty’s new ink with her fans via social media. In the short clip, Nicki is seen adjusting her hair as she asks Petty if the tattoo caused him any pain, to which he responds nonchalantly, “Not at all.”

The “Good Form” rapper then pans over to Petty’s neck for a close-up view of Nicki’s government name, “Onika,” freshly tatted in large cursive letters.

“His first tat, frontin’ like it didn’t sting,” the “Good Form” rapper captioned the video posted to Instagram.

Since going public with their blossoming romance earlier this month, the couple has faced relentless backlash, but it appears as though the self-proclaimed Queen of Rap is remaining grounded in her relationship.

As previously reported, Petty has a checkered past that includes convictions for rape and manslaughter.
