ABC/Rick RowellSpike Lee has found his next big Brooklyn-set project.
According to Indie Wire, the Oscar-winner will direct a film adaption of Ron Wimberly’s 2012 graphic novel Prince of Cats.
The film, described as the “the B-side to Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet,” will follow Romeo’s rival, Juliet’s short-tempered cousin Tybalt. The drama, seen through the eyes of Tybalt, will be set in Lee’s stomping ground of Brooklyn, “where underground sword-dueling blossomed alongside hip-hop, punk, disco and no wave.”
In addition to directing, Lee will also re-write the Prince of Cats script with Wimberly.
