Kenya Barris is ready to try his lhand at sketch comedy.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has ordered Barris’ series Astronomy Club, which features the New York-based sketch comedy and improv group of the same name.
The series, which will be Barris’ second project under his overall deal at Netflix, will feature sketches that “use comedy to discuss complex and nuanced real-world topics,” including pop culture, social issues and the black experience in America.
The Astronomy Club was created in 2013 and billed as the first all-black house team at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater. Its members include Shawtane Bowen, Jonathan Braylock, Ray Cordova, James III, Caroline Martin, Jerah Milligan, Monique Moses and Keisha Zollar. The entire group is expected to star in the series.
