Kehlani has dropped the official music video for her upbeat track “Back and Forth,” which features hip-hop pioneer Missy Elliott.
Promoting the release on social media, Kehlani shared that she was “having fun with @missymisdemeanorelliott @patron & some special people. enjoy!”
The visual project, directed by Director X, immerses viewers into a high-energy house party setting. The video opens with Kehlani talking to a romantic partner over the phone, stating, “I’ll be there when you wake up” — a line pulled directly from the track’s lyrics.
Throughout the clip, Kehlani is shown executing choreographed dance routines and socializing alongside Elliott. The production also includes a brief guest appearance by R&B artist Monica, as well as scenes of Elliott lounging by a swimming pool and handling a phone call. The storyline concludes with Kehlani returning home safely before her partner awakens.
‘Back and Forth’ is part of Kehlani’s latest self-titled studio album, which dropped in April. Kehlani reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart, moving 69,000 equivalent album units in its opening week to secure the highest debut for a female-led R&B album this year.
In support the project, Kehlani is scheduled to embark on a 41-date global tour starting August 6 in Minneapolis. The artist is currently allowing fans to vote on social media for five specific songs to be added directly to the concert setlist. For ticket info, head HERE.
